The Official Portrait
By Miryam Ehrlich Williamson
Below is Pete Souza’s official portrait of the man who will become our President at noon on Tuesday. I think it’s wonderful, but I wish Barack didn’t feel it was necessary to wear a flag pin on his lapel. No one who has not held public office (and quite a few who have) have the right to question the patriotism of this man.
When I was a child, Franklin Roosevelt’s official portrait hung on our living room wall where other families hung the crucifix. I have no doubt the same will be true of this portrait in many homes, not only in America but elsewhere.
If you want to download a poster-sized copy of the portrait, you can find it here.
