On Timing
Here’s what I am wondering right now – who decided on the timing?
Is the Obama campaign trying to shut down the chatter about his so-called problem with blue collar voters after getting spanked in West Virginia? Or does John Edwards think it’s time to wrap this thing up and bring the party together? Maybe it’s a bit of both.
Either way, endorsements make for great headlines and a couple of cycles of cable TV chatter, the unless endorser gets out on the campaign trail and gets to work they tend to lose their punch pretty quickly.
I’ve no doubt Senator Edwards will campaign vigorously to beat Senator McCain, but will he get out there between now and June 3rd? That’s what I’m wondering as I wait for the official announcement.

I think the Obama campaign has probably had this in their back pocket to change the conversation come Wednesday after they are getting thumped in West Virginia. As for Obama’s “problem” with blue collar workers; there is a great post at TPM showing how he has an Appalachian problem, not a blue collar problem. Similarly, the Appalachian effect is disbursed enough that it shouldn’t barr him from winning PA or Ohio or MI: WV and KY are out however.
It would be nice to see the MSM pick up and run with the *accurate* assessment that Obama has an Appalachian problem, not a white or working class problem.
Al’s been making that point Appalachia and also about Obama and educated voters for a while now.
